ALERT! Mighty Mekong River Must Forever Flow Freely

Let the Mekong River Run FreeTAKE ACTION!

The mighty Mekong River [search] in Southeast Asia faces a devastating threat from eleven new proposed dams. If even one of the dams are built in Cambodia, Laos or Thailand; they would block major fish migrations and otherwise ecologically disrupt this vitally important river, placing at risk millions of people who depend upon the Mekong for their food security and income. Help "Save the Mekong" and this affinity campaign in seeking to pressure regional governments to shelve the plans.

These governments of these countries are power hungry and greedy! How can they ignore the kind and vulnerable people living their lives depending on the river for their livelihood. This is just so ignorant and barbaric. Such damming of the river will cause catastrophic environmental problems and cause many species of fish to go extinct. Just to satisfy a few people, many other people have to suffer and the cost environmentally would be irreversible. Those with money can do what they want, those poor people will die, where are they to go? Then cultures and tradition that has been long link with the river will drown with the rising waters. Just like what happened in China's 3 gorges dam. It's so shameful to see people or governments of the 21st century still acting like savage barbarians. I hope the world would fight for nature, because when nature is doom, humans are doom.

Too many people, too few pandemics and other natural catastrophes.
Unless the number of people on the planet collapses to under one billion -- preferably a half billion folks -- and we just as suddenly evolve into a thinking species, the destruction of the environment needed for us to survive will continue.
It's that simple but few are willing to talk about it and almost nobody, including me, is prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice.
However, there is evidence that some person or organization has created a rapidly spreading and mutating possible doomsday computer virus that so sophisticated it usually can't be found or dealt with and whose purpose is still unknown because it hasn't been activated.
However, it is preferable for Nature itself to decide what action is necessary.
Whatever the eventual outcome, hopefully the next species to dominate the planet will be different than we are/were.

The dams will also allow hundreds of villages to irrigate their rice paddies to allow 3-4 harvests to year, giving them vital extra income and lifting them out of subsistence farming into farming for profit. When I say “profit” I mean be able to afford the basic necessities of life that we take for granted.

For example, it is lack of properly irrigated land that keeps Issan (N.E Thaialnd) poor. Currently they only have one harvest a year and are still peasants foraging for food.

By opposing the dam projects in rural Cambodia, Laos and Thailand you will in effect be adding to the poverty and misery of the people of the region.

For example, where are 80% of the trafficked sex workers in S.E Asia from? That's right - the rural areas of Cambodia, Laos and Thailand. Why do they seek a better life? Because of lack of money and work because their crops often fail due to lack of irrigated land. If you only have one harvest a year and there is a drought what happens?

In summary you "do-gooders" need to think before you blindly endorsing conservation projects without properly doing your research and balancing arguments.
