ALERT! Madagascar's Protected Rainforest Hardwoods Continue to be Selectively Logged

Madagascar's lemurs, rainforests and people threatenedTAKE ACTION!

Loggers and wildlife traders continue to violate Madagascar's biodiversity [search] rich rainforests including protected areas. In March of this year controversy surrounding leasing of agricultural land resulted in a military coup. In the chaos that ensued, armed gangs funded by Chinese traders entered Madagascar’s Marojejy and Masoala National Parks, two world-renowned World Heritage Sites, and logged rosewood, ebonies, and other valuable hardwoods. NGOs operating in Madagascar report continued armed, open and organized plundering of precious wood from several natural forests, including these parks.

TAKE ACTION!

Comments

Chinese companies, supported by their government, are rapidly becoming the planet's worst environment despoilers.
The only way to halt this is to boycott Chinese-made goods and services.
DO NOT BUY CHINESE GOODS

please, do everything to save the last ancient forests

best wishes

Madagascar's rainforests are nearly gone, and selective logging is finishing what remains. Trade in Madagascar's rapidly dwindling precious rosewood and ebony hardwoods do not receive any protection under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES). Extending CITES regulation to these species may be the only way to reduce unsustainable exploitation of precious wood in Madagascar.

I fear the people in possession of the awesome power that is being derived from the colossal scale and soon to become patently unsustainable growth of the global political economy are greed-mongering manipulators of democratic principles and practices who do not care about anything more than profits and accumulating material things. Their incorrigible idolatry of business-as-usual, wealth concentration, conspicuous consumption and unconscionable hoarding has reached so huge a scale and unsustainble a growth rate that the very future of the children is being put at risk. Perhaps necessary change toward the survival of offspring and sustainability, rather than the ruin of Earth as a fit place for human habitation, is in the offing.

People are moving towards the scenes in a clock work orange... take care of ME is not going to work in a planet of 6-10 billion human beings and their children.... You must be productive to society so we can have a decent life for the children.... lets not make it dog-eat-dog!

One could help prevent destruction by not buying furniture products made from rosewood, mahogany, ebony, and teakwood, because they most likely came from the rainforests.

I would like to do everything whatever I can do to save the last ancient forests. Thanks for this great post about it. I like the theme of the blog. I will inform others too about this site. So everyone can give their best results whatever they can do.
